The UMass Amherst Medical Reserve Corps has many opportunities for volunteers in medical and non-medical capacities.
MRC volunteers include medical and public health professionals such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, and epidemiologists. Many community members — interpreters, chaplains, office workers, legal advisors, and others — can fill key support positions.
MRC units are community-based, locally organizing and utilizing volunteers who want to donate their time and expertise to prepare for and respond to emergencies and promote healthy living throughout the year. MRC volunteers supplement existing emergency and public health resources.
To volunteer with the UMass Amherst MRC, e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org
or go to the Western Massachusetts MRC website to complete an online application.
About the process
As part of the application process, you will be asked to submit copies of licenses, trainings and certifications, and a signed Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) form. A copy of a government photo identification, such as a driver's license, must be included with your CORI form. Download the CORI form.
In addition, a Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background check will be performed.
Regulations, including the Federal Volunteer Protection Act, Massachusetts Tort Claims Act, Good Samaritan laws and state emergency declarations, govern liability protection for volunteers. Detailed information is included in the volunteer packet provided to all applicants.
