Group Therapy

What is group therapy?

Group therapy is a powerful tool for growth and change. It's an opportunity to receive multiple perspectives, encouragement and feedback in a safe, confidential environment. Group members can deepen self-awareness, enhance relationship skills and experiment with new ideas and ways of being.

Group therapy is the most effective treatment approach for many issues college students face. Each semester, the Center for Counseling and Psychological Health (CCPH) offers an array of groups to address student needs.

Group therapy can help you:

  • Discover you're not alone in your struggles, thoughts and feelings.
  • Learn from others with similar problems.
  • Gain new perspectives.
  • Feel more connected to others.
  • Become more aware
    of yourself.
  • Enhance interpersonal skills.
  • Improve relationships.
  • Use what you've learned by helping others in the group.

Joining a group

The CCPH offers both therapy groups and workshops.

Check out the current schedule.

Pre-registration is required. Here's how:

To join a therapy group, call (413) 545-2337. You'll be scheduled to talk with a couselor who can help you decide if group therapy is the best option for you. To find out more about a particular group, call the CCPH and ask to speak with the group's leader.

If you already have a CCPH counselor, ask that person about a referral to the group which interests you.

Workshops are free and open to all students. Sign up by calling (413) 545-2337 before the published deadline.
