Center for Counseling and Psychological Health

Can you live a healthy, balanced life at UMass Amherst? Absolutely! But that doesn’t mean it’s always easy.

UHS’ Center for Counseling and Psychological Health (CCPH) can help. We understand what you’re going through, because caring for the university community is our specialty.

About the CCPH

Confidential services include crisis intervention, short-term therapy for individuals, couples and families, support and therapy groups, behavioral medicine and psychiatric services.

Our staff also provides consultation and education for the campus and surrounding communities. CCPH's suicide prevention experts offer free trainings for the campus community.

CCPH's Frequently Asked Questions for Parents can help families assist their student.

Our short-term model

Length of therapy varies, with a primary focus on short-term treatment directed at helping students function in a university environment. You and your therapist will determine the best approach for you.

CCPH does not have the capacity to manage chronic conditions requiring intensive or frequent contacts. If our short-term care model will not adequately meet your needs, your therapist will discuss referral resources with you

Costs

The Student Health Fee, paid by all students taking five or more credits per semester, covers initial psychotherapy visits. After these prepaid visits, your primary insurance will be billed.

All psychiatric medication visits will be billed to your primary insurance. The Student Health Fee will cover any balance not paid by primary insurance, with the exception of plan deductibles, which will be billed to you.

Read your plan or contact your insurance carrier for specific information about the terms and conditions of your coverage.

For more information about the Student Health Fee or general insurance questions, call UHS Patient Services, (413) 577-5192, weekdays, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
