Student with a Disability

UHS offers an array of medical, mental health and health promotion resources to support your UMass Amherst experience.

Students with attention, sight, hearing, learning, medical, psychological, mobility or physical disabilities should contact Disability Services, 231 Whitmore, to discuss options and referrals.

Accessibility
A TTY line is available for callers with hearing or speech impairments.

UHS facilities are wheelchair accessible. If you have an appointment with a UHS medical or mental health provider, parking is available in the patient lot behind 150 Infirmary Way; spaces in front of the building have a 15-minute limit.

Parking for Mental Health Services, 127 Hills North, is located in the rear of the building’s South wing, and in lot 46 behind Hills North and Brett Hall; metered parking is also available in the Central residential area.

UMass Transit offers special transportation, including door-to-door service.

Mental and emotional health
University life can be both exciting and challenging. If you’d like to talk with someone in a confidential, supportive environment, individual or group counseling through Mental Health Services can help.

Services are also available for those with psychological or attention disabilities that require medication; contact Mental Health Services to learn more.

Referrals
UHS’ medical, mental health and health promotion professionals can help connect you with the resources you need, both on campus and in the community. Talk with your provider to learn what’s available.

Withdrawals
Sometimes, medical or mental health issues necessitate withdrawal from courses or the University. Disability Services staff and the UHS Medical Director work together with students when withdrawal is requested.
