Bernette A. Melby, Ed.D.
Executive Director

A college health professional whose extensive experience includes direct clinical care, finance, human relations, insurance, systems and operations, Bernette came to UHS in 1993 from the University of Minnesota’s Boynton Health Service.
She holds an undergraduate degree in organizational psychology from that school, a master’s degree from the College of Saint Catherine in St. Paul, Minn., and a doctorate from UMass Amherst.
In addition, she is a Certified Third Party Neutral Mediator and a member of the American College Health Association, the New England College Health Association, the Medical Group Management Association, and the Campus Task Force for Community Diversity and Social Justice.
The mother of grown children, she enjoys walking, Pilates, reading, music, theatre and travel. Most recently, she visited China, including Shanghai and Beijing, and hiked the Great Wall. Attempting to make peace with winter, Bernette recently began downhill skiing, which has become a new favorite activity.
