Graduate Assistantships

Working as a graduate assistant in the Center for Health Promotion is a rewarding and fulfilling experience. Appointments typically vary between 10 - 20 hours a week; all meet Graduate Employee Organization guidelines.

Qualifications vary by position, but in general, we seek:

  • Graduate students enrolled in a degree program in public health, education, or other closely related human relations profession.
  • Significant prior work experience with health education and community programs, including development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Working knowledge of health care issues, community development, group dynamics, teaching health promotion/disease prevention principles and techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, UHS staff and campus community members. Diversity includes race, gender, culture, nationality, sexual orientation and ability. Knowledge of UMass Amherst preferred.
  • Ability to organize work, exercise good judgment, complete tasks in a timely manner, collaborate, and perform routine supportive tasks such as scheduling and recordkeeping.
  • Computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office suite, e-mail. Strong knowledge of social media and emerging technologies is highly desirable.
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills; proficiency in another language a plus.
  • Prior facilitation, presentation and training experience preferred.
