Skills to be a lifeguard. Red Cross certification in
CPR/PR, Community First Aid and Safety, Lifeguard Training. Prerequisite:
strong swimming ability.
G05 Water Safety Instructor 2 cr
Red Cross certification for swimming instruction. Prerequisite:
current LGT certification.
G06 Lifeguard Training Instructor 2 cr
Red Cross certification. Prerequisite: current LGT certification
and lifeguard experience.
G07 Water Polo 1 cr
Development of necessary finesse and speed in swimming
skills. Defensive and offensive skills and tactics. Prerequisite: strong
swimming ability.
G09 Scuba 2 cr
Basic introduction to all aspects of scuba. NAUI Openwater
certification. Course fee. Prerequisite: swimming ability.
G10 Sport Scuba 2 cr
Offered during spring break in Florida Keys or other
southern location. Course fee. NAUI Advanced Openwater certification.
Prerequisite: scuba certification.
G11 Advanced Scuba 2 cr
Intensive training in scuba skill development. New England
coastal dives. NAUI Advanced certification. Course fee. Prerequisite:
scuba certification.

Introduction to Japanese
martial art; movements characterized
by grace of form. Power of movement achieved through reliance on mental concentration rather than physical
strength.

Further development of skills in the martial art form.
Prerequisite: G34 or equivalent.
G36 Karate I 1 cr
The art of barehand fighting: instruction in basic techniques
of punches, strikes, kicks, blocks, and fighting forms. Various methods
and styles.

Further development of the martial art form. Prerequisite:
G36 or equivalent.
G38 Judo I 1 cr
Courtesy of judo, breathing techniques (Kokyo), off-balance
(Kuzuski), falling techniques (Ukemi), and throws.
G39 Judo II 1 cr
Further development of judo. Prerequisite: G38 or equivalent.
G40 Self-Defense for Women 1 cr
Basic skills of self-defense (various styles).
G41 Hatha Yoga I 1 cr
Breathing exercises, basic postures, relaxation.
G42 Yoga II 1 cr
Breathing exercises, advanced postures, and relaxation.
Prerequisite: G41 or G44 or equivalent.
G43 Kundalini Yoga 1 cr
A system of postures, breathing exercises, chants, and
meditations to tune up the body and increase mental awareness.
G44 Iyengar Yoga 1 cr
Breathing exercises, basic postures, relaxation. A form
of Hatha Yoga.
G47 International Folk Dance 1 cr
G48 Table Tennis 1 cr
Basic fundamentals, strokes, scoring, and strategy.
Singles, doubles, and tournament play.
G56 Mountain Biking I 1 cr
Fundamental techniques of safe and efficient off-road
cycling and general bike maintenance. Area trail rides. Must supply own
bike and helmet.
G58 Fencing I 1 cr
Basic attacks, parries, and simple bouting.
G59 Fencing II 1 cr
Proficiency in basic techniques and intermediate skills.
Further development of bouting and officiating techniques. Prerequisite:
G58 or equivalent.
G61 Alpine Skiing (2nd sem) 1 cr
Introduction to skiing. Mandatory Pass/Fail. Course fee to Mt. Snow. Fee includes
equipment rental, instruction, and lift ticket.
G62 Snowboarding (2nd sem) 1 cr
Course fee to Mt. Snow. Fee includes equipment rental,
instruction, and lift ticket.
G63 Golf I 1 cr
Basic development of essential skills and knowledge.
Clubs and balls supplied.
G65 Badminton I 1 cr
Basic strokes, scoring, and strategy. Singles and doubles
play.
G66 Badminton II 1 cr
Advanced skill development and competition. Prerequisite:
G65 or equivalent.
G67 Tennis I 1 cr
Basic strokes, scoring, and strategy in singles and
doubles play. Must supply own racquet and balls.
G68 Tennis II 1 cr
Further development of skills. Singles and doubles tournament
play. Must supply own racquet and balls. Prerequisite: G67 or equivalent.
G71 Racquetball I 1 cr
Basic fundamentals, strokes, scoring, and strategies.
Must supply own racquet and balls. Safety goggles required.
G72 Racquetball II
Further development of skills, strategies, tournament
play. Must supply own racquet and balls. Safety goggles required. Prerequisite:
G71 or equivalent.
G78 Basketball 1 cr
Fundamental skills, strategy, and team competition.
G79 Volleyball I 1 cr
Fundamental skills, strategy, and rules of game play.
G80 Volleyball II 1 cr
Complex skills and offensive and defensive systems of
team play.
G83 Lacrosse 1 cr (1st sem)
Fundamental skills, basic offensive and defensive play,
rules of the game. Team competition.
G84 Soccer 1 cr (1st sem)
Basic individual and team skills, rules of the game.
Team competition.
G85 Ice Hockey 1 cr
Fundamental skills, strategies, and rules of game play.
Prerequisite: skating ability. Must supply own equipment.
G87 Orienteering 1 cr
Introduction to topographical map reading, compass work,
fitness training, course setting and following. Field trips. Transportation
provided.

Basic skills and fundamentals.
G89 Figure Skating II 1 cr
Advanced skills and routines.
G91-G98 Activity Instructor 2 cr
Classroom study of teaching and peer instruction of
an activity course. Prerequisite: consent of GPE Program.
