Graduate School
The University of Massachusetts Amherst has offered graduate study since
1876, awarding more than 9,900 doctoral and 31,600 master's degrees. With
a full-time graduate faculty of 1,100, the University offers 50 programs leading to the doctorate
and 68 leading toward a master's degree.
Enrollment in all graduate programs is approximately 4,700.
A Five College Cooperative Ph.D. Program involving Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke,
and Smith colleges and the University is also available in some departments.
The School of Education offers several specialized
programs leading to the Doctor of Education degree for those employed
in the educational field. The requirements for this degree follow those
outlined for the Doctor of Philosophy.
