115 Embracing Diversity (ID)
Helps develop an analysis of and a critically examined
position about diversity in higher education: differences of race, class,
religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, and disabilities.
229 International Education (SBD)
(both sem)
Introduction to issues
in international education. Topics include problems of education
and culture/politics/economics in countries of Africa, Latin America and
Asia; and educational relations between U.S. and other countries. Guest
speakers from Third World; films, readings, dialogues, small group discussion;
project exploring selected issues in depth.
276 Erroneous Beliefs (R2)
Examines how erroneous beliefs form, why they survive,
and how to reveal their shaky foundations. Beliefs examined related to
health, the environment, sports, and social life. Introduces statistical
and research design concepts.
342 Contemporary Educational Philosophies (both
sem)
Examination and assessment of several currently influential
educational philosophies: their stance on the purposes of education; and
their relevance to educational practice
in such areas as teaching methods and curriculum planning.
351 Foundations of Education (both sem)
Selected problems and issues in modern education through
the disciplines of edu-cational
sociology, educational history, educational
philosophy, comparative education, or
social psychology. Independent study or field experiences optional.
Possible foci are educational aims, professionalism, academic freedom,
urban education, and educational innovation. Fulfills "foundations"
requirement for teacher certification.
