TTO Director Bob MacWright will speak-
Making inventions and proving they work is within the usual skill set for an academic scientist. But no matter how good the invention, there is a lot of work to get from there to a commercial product, and much of that work is in unfamiliar territory. We will explore how production costs are estimated and minimized, how manufacturing protocols are developed and tested, how product shelf-life is determined and improved, and how quality control tests are developed and validated. We will also discuss how market price, production costs, product demand and profitability are balanced to establish what the final product will be, which may be less than a perfect implementation of the technology’s potential.
