Founded, in 1979 by two professors, the Translation Center is directed by a faculty member at the University. Our current director is Dr. Regina Galasso, an associate professor in the Spanish and Portuguese Program of the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. Shawn Lindholm and Río Hernández are our project managers. The Translation Center provides select students with the opportunity to work as assistants. Student Assistants work closely with the Center's Assistant Director and project managers on specific assignments and occasionally participate in the translation process as translators or reviewers. They also work with the Director on special projects and provide administrative support. We are so lucky to have such excellent, hardworking, detail-oriented, and multilingual students at UMASS.

Translation has many dimensions at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Professor Moira Inghilleri is the director of Translation and Interpreting Studies within the Comparative Literature Program. The Comparative Literature Program offers an MA in Translation Studies and a Certificate in Translation and Interpreting Studies. UMASS also offers online opportunities to study translation and interpreting. Cristiano Mazzei, is a lecturer in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and Director of Online Translator and Interpreter Training. Several UMASS faculty members as well as faculty members from the nearby colleges translate or write about translation. Many of the translators and interpreters employed by the Translation Center are current or past graduate students or professors from UMASS and the colleges in the area. We are very fortunate to have such a solid network of translators, interpreters, and people who think deeply about translation and language at our university.
