Translator/Author Lunch & Discussion with Shahad al-Rawi and Luke Leafgren

Come have lunch with Iraqi author Shahad al-Rawi, author of the The Baghdad Clock, shortlisted for the 2019 International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF), and her translator, Dr. Luke Leafgren, winner of the 2018 Banipal Prize for translation.

The Baghdad Clock, al-Rawi's poignant, best-selling debut novel, has gone through multiple printings in Iraq, Dubai and the UAE. al-Rawi is also completing a PhD in anthropology in Dubai.

In addition to his work as a literary translator, Leafgren teaches Arabic at Harvard University where he also serves as assistant dean of Harvard College.

The International Prize for Arabic Fiction is the most prestigious literary prize in the Arab world, aiming to encourage both readership and translation of high-quality literary texts.
