A Master Class with Peter Cole
We are delighted to announce that, in collaboration with the Umass Museum of Contemporary Art, we are hosting MacArthur-winning poet and translator Peter Cole at the Emily Dickinson Museum for a master class open to all Five College students. Cole illustrates the central place translation holds in our lives and the ways in which it can come to inform both our experience of the world and the making of poems.
MacArthur-winning poet and translator Peter Cole leads a master class on the translation of poetry and the poetry of translation. Cole illustrates the central place translation holds in our lives and the ways in which it can come to inform both our experience of the world and the making of poems. Peter Cole teaches comparative literature and Judaic studies at Yale University. He is the author of five books of poems, and many volumes of translation from Hebrew and Arabic. Cole’s numerous honors include fellowships from the MacArthur and Guggenheim Foundations, and an Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He is currently a co-editor of Princeton University Press’s Lockert Library of Poetry in Translation, and divides his time between Jerusalem and New Haven.
