Our performances are a laboratory that is open to all community members.
What students learn in the classroom comes to life in our theaters.
Students work on mainstage performances, independent projects, scenes for classes, and more. Based on their level of interst and experience, they have the opportunity to act, direct, design, work as dramaturgs, serve as technicians and crew members, publicize, and more. They may start out in assistant positions on mainstage shows and may eventually take on primary responsibility; others choose to take on independent projects to do their hands-on learning. Community members are welcome to attend most of these works.
Our mainstage season, presented in our two theaters and occasionally elsewhere at UMass, is open to all and we sell individual tickets and subscriptions — click on the link in the sidebar for all the information.
We often organize conversations and panels to give audiences an opportunity to engage in deeper conversations about the issues raised in a show; check our events page or individual show pages for any details.
The events presented in the Student Work Series are often free; that list is updated throughout the year as projects come together both on and off campus.
We want the greater community to be part of our community. Actors are welcome to audition, so please check our audition page to see if there's a project you'd like to be a part of.
School teachers and youth group leaders looking to introduce their students to theater have the opportunity to do so through our school matinees, as well as workshops either on their own campuses or at UMass, see our Community Connections page.
