The UMass Campus Sustainability Initiative will be offering a free time option two days out of each week during Summer College. Sustainability tours will visit sites around campus that demonstrate how institutions can lead the way in creating a healthy and sustainable built environment. For example, using our new campus Bike Sharing Program, we’ll visit the award-winning Central Heating Plant. Bike down, put on some hard hats and learn how we power the entire campus with electricity and steam. Take a van to our South Deerfield Research Farm to see our Solar Array (watch out for the grazing cattle) and the student organic farm where we produce thousands of pounds of vegetables for the campus dining commons. Visit a student run CSA and the Student Farmers Market as part of the Student Farming Enterprise course. It’s fun, hands-on, and educational.
