Profs. Dong Wang and Alice Cheung, along with four other faculty from the Microbiology and Plant, Soil and Insect Sciences Departments, are members of a team awarded a Mellon Mutual Mentoring Grant to establish a mentoring program that brings together new, early-career, and/or tenured faculty as mentoring partners around a particular issue. The UMass Campus Sustainability Initiative will be offering a free time option two days out of each week during Summer College. Sustainability tours will visit sites around campus that demonstrate how institutions can lead the way in creating a healthy and sustainable built environment. Alix Olson who is teaching the Politics of Artistic Expression will be performing (with Eve Ensler) in V-Day New York City, Occupy Wall St. 2012 at The Great Hall @ Cooper Union, on February 26. Alix is also serving on a panel "Poetry and Politics" at the Woodstock Writers Festival (with poets Sonia Sanchez and Joan Larkin) on April 21.

In the fall of 2010, a collaborative project between the University Museum of Contemporary Art, Nuestras Raices Inc. of Holyoke, Holyoke Food and Fitness Policy Council and Joseph Krupczynski (art activist, architect/designer and UMass professor) transformed a traditional mobile food cart into a movable feast of visual and culinary offerings, circulating to locations throughout the campus and community.
