International Students
UMass Amherst Summer College provides an excellent opportunity for international students to immerse themselves in the American culture and improve English language skills, while learning one subject in depth and previewing the American university system.
International students are welcome to apply to Summer College and international high school juniors and seniors are eligible for these programs as are freshman from international universities or colleges. All International students must provide their internet-based TOEFL (iBT) or computer-based TOEFL scores (see supplemental International PDF) and request ETS to send their scores to Summercollege@provost.umass.edu. We require that students have at least a minimum 60 or higher on the iBT TOEFL or 500 PBT.
The suggested application deadline for international Students is March 15, 2012. This will allow students to obtain the necessary visa and make appropriate travel arrangements once they have been accepted.
Depending on students’ TOEFL scores, applicants may be asked to participate in an interview conducted over Skype and may be required to participate in a one-week language and culture intensive.
- For programs beginning in Session Two; July 8 through July 21 the one-week language intensive takes place July 1 through 6.
- For programs in Session 3: July 22 through August 4 the one week language intensive takes place July 15 through 20.
- Programs in Session 1: June 24 through July 7 do not offer a language intensive.
Note: International students should download the attached Additional Information Page and use it as a guide to provide the necessary information. Additional information should be saved as a PDF and uploaded in the transcript section of the Summer College online application.
Students coming for Summer College programs should apply for an F-1 visa.
