  • Pre-College and Research Intensive Labs

    We accept applications from rising sophomores*, juniors and seniors in high school. High school seniors who will graduate in the spring of 2019 are also welcome. Please check the course descriptions carefully for eligibility requirements.

    *Please note, for the Pre-Veterinary Medicine program we accept applications only from rising junior and seniors.

    Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis, but it is best to apply early as programs fill up quickly.

    To apply for Summer Pre-College Programs, we require:

    1. A written statement of interest: a brief, one-page statement describing why you want to attend Summer Pre-College at UMass Amherst and specifically the program you have chosen. For Research Intensives, please include your top 3 lab choices and why you're interested in each one.
       
    2. An unofficial high school transcript (PDF) including grades from fall 2018. Rising sophomores should attach a middle school transcript as well as fall grades from 2018.
       
    3. A letter of recommendation written by a teacher or guidance counselor who can speak to your skills, abilities, maturity level and academic accomplishments that make you a suitable candidate for the program you are applying to. Letters of recommendation should be obtained by the applicant and uploaded into the online application system. If your reference prefers to submit their letter of recommendation directly, please upload a brief statement, in PDF format, indicating that your letter of recommendation is being sent directly, and instruct your reference to email the letter to: summerprograms@umass.edu.
       
    4. A $35 non-refundable application fee

    International students will be asked to provide additional information regarding TOEFL scores.

    Internet Explorer browser is not recommended for the application.

  • EducationUSA Academy

    Begin Application

    We invite applications from international students who are interested in studying in the US, while learning more about the higher education system. If you have a certified CEFR level of B1 or greater (or equivalent), no language verification is needed. Others require verification through online interview*. EducationUSA Academy is part of Summer Pre-College at UMass Amherst. Applications are done using the Summer Pre-College Program Online Application. Please select “EducationUSA Academy” from the list of program choices.

    *If you have taken an English proficiency exam such as TOEFL, IELTS or CAE, you may include a score report. If you do not have English certification, we will schedule a Skype interview after receiving your application.

    To apply for EducationUSA Academy at UMass Amherst, we require:

    • Written statement of interest
    • Letter of recommendation
    • Written by an English teacher or guidance counselor who can speak to your potential for success in EducationUSA Academy as well as your English proficiency. Letters of recommendation should be obtained by the applicant and uploaded into the online application system. If your reference prefers to submit their letter of recommendation directly, please upload a brief statement, in PDF format, indicating that your letter of recommendation is being sent directly, and instruct your reference to email the letter to: summerprograms@umass.edu.
    • Unofficial high school transcript (PDF) along with a copy of your most recent report card.
    • Please include at least one year's worth of grades. In particular, we are interested in information about completion of English language courses.
    • $35 non-refundable application fee.
    • Non-refundable application fee. Interested students who cannot pay the application fee may email summerprograms@umass.edu to request a waiver.

  • Intensive English Program

    Adult learners interested in the summer or semester long programs must have a minimum TOEFL score of 32 or IELTS score of 4.5. Secondary school students must have a minimum CEFR level of B1.

    Apply online to UMass Amherst’s Intensive English Program (IEP). The application requires:

       •     Written statement of interest

       •     If you are applying for the IEP for adult learners, a copy of your secondary school diploma is required

       •     If you are applying for the IEP for secondary school students, please follow the EducationUSA Academy instructiions above

       •     Non-refundable application fee: $75 Adult IEP / $35 Secondary school student IEP
