UMass Amherst

The Warning Council meets twice a week during the semester. Its primary function is to listen to appeals of warnings that have been issued. Don't be overely concerned if you get a warning. The intention of warnings is to highlight and document behavior or actions that need correction.

There are three types of warnings you can receive. If you receive a verbal warning, you DO NOT HAVE TO APPEAL IT. Think of it as a reminder notice. However if you receive a third verbal warning for the same offense, it turns into an unappealable written warning.

If you receive a written warning for something you don't think you're responsible for, then you MUST appeal it. You have one week (7 days) FROM THE DATE OF THE WARNING to appeal it. If you do not appeal your warning within 7 days, it will be recorded as `responsible'. To schedule a meeting with the warning council, simply call 5-2123 after 6:00 PM to make an appointment. If you are referred for Termination you may appeal in writing to the Security Manager. If you do not appeal your termination within two weeks (14 days) of the date on the warning, your employment will be terminated. If you would like resign, you must provide two weeks' notice. TWO WEEKS' NOTICES MUST BE FILLED OUT AT THE OFFICE TO BE OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED.
