Our Mission
We, the UMass Amherst Student Philanthropy Committee (SPC) seek to help UMass students understand how contributors to UMass Amherst have enhanced the student experience and we encourage students, themselves, to become givers while they are on campus. We encourage a legacy of philanthropy that enhances the future of UMass Amherst.
Our purpose, through a student perspective, is to build awareness among students about the importance and impact of private support in enhancing their educational experience and to actively engage current UMass Amherst students in all aspects of philanthropy.
We accomplish our goals by:
- Using social media to establish direct connections with individual students and to spread the message of philanthropy through student-friendly means.
- Being involved with student events and initiatives, as well as collaborating with established campus organizations, that work to promote philanthropy.
- Including remarkable UMass Amherst students in our events.
- Planning and hosting events and initiatives, like Senior Campaign, Piggy BankIt program and Gratitude Week, that highlight and educate the student body on the importance of philanthropy.
- Acting as ambassadors of UMass Amherst at development-related events.
Giving Opportunities
Senior Campaign
Begun in 1917, the Senior Campaign is a time-honored tradition that enables graduating students to leave their “mark” and give something back to UMass Amherst. Although the students will have graduated, the Class Gift will ensure that their class will not be forgotten.
By making a commitment to support UMass Amherst, donors are helping to ensure a great UMass Amherst experience for the next generation of students. Gifts help to increase the value of the UMass Amherst diploma, by helping to enhance all areas of campus, which leads to a better reputation.
Piggy BankIt
Piggy BankIt is about students supporting the UMass Amherst community. By saving extra change – in the Phil A. Pig piggy bank – and contributing to the university, donors are helping to support a scholarship fund that will benefit current students, while showing their UMass Amherst pride!
In addition, students are able to designate where their Piggy BankIt gift will be allocated. They can choose their major, a registered student organization or any of the myriad of funds that survive because of the generosity of others.
Gratitude Week
A week of events and programs designed to highlight, educate and engage the UMass Amherst community about those who love and support UMass Amherst, and have given back to make it a better place. The week consists of several events and programs designed to show UMass Amherst the importance of giving back, and to thank those who have supported UMass Amherst through the year.
The UMass Amherst community is asked to actively engage in the thank you process, which will help strengthen the bond between giver and recipient.
