Becoming involved with community service activities while in college puts you in the company of engaged, proactive, and passionate peers and staff members. Through partnership with various community organizations, you will have the ability to synthesize your academic coursework with real world experiences and give back to the community in which you live.
If you desire to get outside the classroom – to connect with the community, be involved with social justice issues or advocate for a cause that you are passionate about, you have come to the right place!

Volunteer UMass Alternative Break
The Volunteer UMass Alternative Break program engage students in immersive service-learning experiences, which aims to raise their critical awareness of social issues. This program sponsors weeklong student excursions to communities across the nation, where students forge collaborative partnerships with local community agencies and explore issues plaguing the community such as: poverty, homelessness, hunger, housing, and healthcare.
The Alternative Break program fosters a reciprocal relationship that enables students to learn from their experience while simultaneously providing assistance specific to the needs defined by the community. This program grants students an opportunity to become informed and engaged in a community, while participating in an experience that challenges them to continue their engagement when returning to their own communities.
Student Bridges is an outreach program connecting UMass students with community-based organizations and schools through tutoring-mentoring, college awareness activities, and policy advocacy.
