Peer wellness coaching is designed for students who want to grow and build their capacity for health and success. It acknowledges that students often feel challenges in college and that they can benefit from individualized support.

Peer wellness coaches meet with fellow undergraduate students one-one to support them in maintaining and/or improving their own wellness.  Coaches assist with setting goals, building on strengths and increasing resiliency.

Peer wellness coaching is grounded in the wellness model, empowerment model, motivational interviewing, and positive psychology. The peer-to-peer approach emphasizes that there is no "expert."  Coaches support students in realizing their own strengths and wellness goals.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is it free? Yes, all sessions are FREE and offered on a first-come first-served basis.

How many sessions can I sign up for? It is possible to meet with a coach multiple times. The number of sessions depends on the wellness goals you develop with your coach, how often you would like to check in about your goals, availability, etc.

How long do sessions last? Sessions last up to 45 minutes.

Where are the sessions held? Sessions are currently held in the Center for Health Promotion (located in University Health Services) and Campus Recreation.

What are some examples of reasons why a student might sign up for coaching?  It varies widely, but some examples include managing transitions into or out of college life, developing healthy relationships, managing time and competing priorities, enhancing personal wellness, keeping self-care a priority, and creating school/work/life balance.

I’m not sure what my goals are yet. Is that a problem? No, as you and your coach develop a working relationship and explore possibilities, you will be able to better identify goals you would like to set for yourself.

Will I meet with the same coach every time? It’s pretty much up to you. At the end of every session, you will be asked if you would like to schedule another session (with the same or a different coach).

Can I make request to accommodate my preferences with selecting a coach? (e.g. by gender, first-generation student, etc.) We will do our best to accommodate your request, but we can’t make any guarantees.
