UMass is proud to bring you STRING DAY - a community event that invites string players to join the UMass string faculty and students for a fun filled day of music making. Since our first STRING DAY in 2005, the number of participants has been steadily growing. All who attend play in one of three chamber orchestras, Opus 4 for Junior participants, Opus 3 for Intermediate, and Opus 2 for Senior. Each orchestra is led by the participants and UMass students, creating an orchestral environment of a large string quartet. The style is based on the UMass Opus One conductorless chamber orchestra. Participants are taught and encouraged to cue and everyone learns how to listen. The morning's activities result in an afternoon concert that all parents are invited to attend. Stay tuned for next year's date - it will be decided in May. Director, Kathryn Lockwood Michelle Painter, Administrative Assistant |
