On Wednesday, March 30, the Stockbridge School at the University of Massachusetts Amherst will host a program showcasing floral designs by nationally recognized floral artists Deryck DeMatas and Daniel Vaughn.
The program, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom, will demonstrate innovative floral designs for wedding and event table d?cor along with wedding bouquets. DeMatas and Vaughn will discuss selecting flowers and the interplay of bloom textures and colors. The artists will also dress tables with fabrics coupled with their floral designs to create table d?cor.
The program is sponsored by the student chapter of the American Institute of Floral Designers (SAIFD) and the Florists' Transworld Delivery (FTD) Western Massachusetts District. DeMatas and Vaughn volunteered to present the Artist in Residence program at the university after they were impressed by students' work on final night floral d?cor at the national AIFD symposium. “This symposium is an incredible educational opportunity for the students. To have Deryck and Dan come to campus is a great opportunity for the students and the public to witness the creativity of two exceptionally talented floral artists,” said Nancy L. Garrabrants, director of Stockbridge.
“Having seen their designs and programs at national AIFD Symposium, the public is in for a real educational treat and a wonderful learning experience,” said Bob Whitney, Springfield floral wholesaler and SAIFD advisor. The program will be of interest to the public, florists, event planners, caterers and brides.
Advanced registration for the program is required by March 16. Tickets are $25. Catering students from the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management will provide food before the program at 6:30 p.m. Funds raised will assist the student trip to the 2005 AIFD Symposium in Seattle .
