The Hadley Farm

The Hadley FarmA 131-acre farm adjacent to campus provides one of the finest collegiate horse facilities in the country, and includes a 100-ft. by 200ft. indoor riding arena, a full-sized dressage arena, and a 5/8-mile training track. These facilities afford opportunities for classes, demonstrations, show exhibits, and community education.
The University's 60-horse herd includes 30 registered Morgans. The remainder include jumping, eventing, and dressage horses. The Bay State Morgan breeding program provides opportunities to learn breeding techniques and management. The offspring provide young horses for training classes and trained horses for the riding program.

Opportunities for Riding

Emphasis in equitation courses is on balance seat, dressage, and jumping. You may take courses in breaking and training. Practice Teaching Equitation is also an option for those who want to become licensed instructors. You may also try out for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association equestrian team or Interscholastic Dressage Association dressage team and compete throughout the year with other colleges in the Northeast region.

Boarding Your Horse at the Hadley Farm

The Hadley Farm offers a unique boarding opportunity for Animal Science students. This is a student run Copop barn operated in the Police Barn. The sutdent boarders will perform all work and be responsible for all decisions made concerning their horse and the barn management. This is to be an education experience as well as a chance for students to board their horses on the farm. Students will be given the chance to find out what working and running a boarding operation is like. The experiences gained will be invaluable when the student are out in the horse industry.
