Stats Server Terms of Use
By logging in to the stats server and changing your password, you signify that you agree to the following Terms of Use.
The stats.oit.umass.edu server is available for users who require UNIX-based statistical software or and/or programming languages.
General Terms & Conditions for Use:
- Users who abuse the machine or otherwise interfere with others' ability to use the machine may have their accounts removed.
- OIT cannot guarantee that statistical software will be available 24/7. The software resides on a single server; there is no backup server in the event the stats.oit.umass.edu server fails.
- OIT will try to give users several days notice if there is a need for downtime, but there may be instances where this is not possible.
- We will diagnose server problems within 24 hours and fix the problems within 48 hours of diagnosis.
Software:
- Operating system: Solaris 9, tcsh & bash shells
- Statistical software: SPSS, SAS, R
- Programming languages: Fortran, C, C++ (SUN Workshop 6 forte)
- Text editors: emacs, pico, vi, nano, sed
- Utilities: psf, netscape, ssh2, sftp, scp
Other software and utilities may be installed on request.
Disk storage:
- Each user is given 1 Gigabyte of personal storage space. This quota can be increased by request.
- A scratch area ( /scr) is available for short-term storage of files too large for personal storage. Files stored on /scr and not used for 7 days will be deleted.
Backups:
- User home directories will be backed up nightly.
Backup media will be kept for 90 days.
- Restores from backup can be requested by contacting the OIT Help Desk (545-9400 | http://www.oit.umass.edu/help.html).
- There is no .snaspshot for restoring your own files.
/scr, /tmp, and any other non-user directories are not backed up.
What's Not Available:
- There is NO print service available on the server. You must download files to your PC and print them locally.
- There is no email service on the server.
Migration from OITUNIX:
Users are responsible for transferring their own data files from OITUNIX to the stats.oit.umass.edu server. All file migration must be completed before August 9, 2007, when OITUNIX will be permanently shut down. How to move files to stats server.
