This includes institutional research and any such use related to reporting about the University to the University. Software licensed for Administrative use may only be used by University employees.

  • These downloads are about 15GB. Before downloading, make sure you have a gotten a license from the UMass IT Help Center. You must have a SAS Installation Data file that matches your use (Teaching and Research or Adminsitrative) and your version of SAS 9.3 or 9.4 (32-bit or 64-bit). You will not be able to install the software without a correct SAS Installation Data file.

Before you Begin Installation

The download is a .zip file. After completing the download, extract the entire .zip file to your hard drive. (Don't just double-click the .zip file to open it. You need to extract the entire contents, keeping the file structure intact.) This will create a SAS Software Depot. Store the SAS Installation Data file you got from UMass IT the sid_files folder of the SAS Software Depot. Then follow the installation instructions.

Current SAS 9.4 downloads are Rev. 940_15w20.

Important note on downloads!

  • Due to excessive internet traffic from unauthorized locations, SAS downloads are currently restricted to UMass campuses and to off-campus users with a UMass Amherst NetID. If you are at one of the other campuses and wish to install SAS on a home computer, download it in your campus office and take it home on portable drive (with at least 25G of free space on the drive). If this is not possible, contact the UMass IT Help Center at 413-545-9730, to purchase SAS on DVD.
  • If you are using a domain joined Windows computer, you need to know where it is safe to store such files. Storing large files in the "wrong" location, can have serious negative impact on your future logon/logoff. Learn how to tell whether your computer is in a domain, and where to safely store large downloads.
