Education:
2006 Ph.D. Mathematics Education, Washington University in St. Louis
2001 M.Ed. Mathematics Education, Pennsylvania State University
1998 B.S. Mathematics Education, Middle East Technical University, Turkey

Sibel is postdoctoral research associate working on the Model Chance project. Specifically, she is interested in children's understanding of probability and data as it relates to reasoning about distributions. Her dissertation study focused on fourth-grade students' development of probability concepts and reasoning about distributions in chance events in a small-group teaching experiment. Also, Sibel's work with Dr. Jere Confrey during her doctoral study involved the analyses of data on student outcomes and of the mathematics test items in the high-stakes tests to inform classroom practice.

Prior to coming to Amherst, Massachusetts, Sibel has enjoyed living in various parts of the country. During her graduate studies, she moved from State College, Pennsylvania to Austin, Texas to do her PhD with Dr. Jere Confrey at the University of Texas, and then followed her advisor to St. Louis, Missouri.
