On September 6, 2016, the School of Public Policy welcomed 36 students newly matriculated in its accelerated and two-year master's programs--the largest class since the public policy program at UMass Amherst enrolled its first class in 1998.
Combined with other full- and part-time matriculants, the SPP community now includes almost 70 student members.
Students in this year's class hail from a range of locales. In addition to those from Massachusetts, new students have joined SPP from Brazil, China, the Congo, Ghana and Mexico.
They also represent alumni of such institutions as Amherst College, Cornell University, Earlham, Eckerd, Hampshire, Smith, Swarthmore, Williams, and--of course--UMass.
Additionally, this year's class members have had diverse professional experiences, coming to SPP from previous careers that include teaching, consulting, executive management, and campaign organizing.
