The UMass Amherst School of Public Policy and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences will host a special event on the future of public policy making in Washington, DC, on January 15.
The event, which is open to all UMass Amherst alumni, will include a reception and a panel discussion, "Preparing the Next Generation of Public Policy Makers," that will look at the evolution of public policy education, research, and practice and consider who we are preparing tomorrow's leaders to address multi-faceted issues and solve problems that affect our everyday lives.
The event is being held in conjunction with the School of Public Policy's annual trip to Washington, where students visit federal lawmakers and departments and meet with alumni and others working in the government and policy fields.
The panelists include:
• Robert A. Rapoza '75 MPA, founder and president, Rapoza Associates
• Menty Kebede '16, policy and advocacy manager of the Immigration and Refugee Program, Church World Service
• Ann-Marie Watt '03, '06 MPPA, senior advisor, Office of Under Secretary of Management with the US Department of Homeland Security
The panel moderator will be Tejasi Thatte, UMass Amherst '09, deputy chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Tony Cárdenas.
The event will take place on Tuesday, January 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the CASE Headquarters at 1307 New York Avenue NW in Washington DC.
Tickets are $15 per person and include appetizers, wine, and beer. Register to attend.
