David Mednicoff

David Mednicoff (public policy and Middle Eastern Studies) has a new article in Middle East Insights’s Rule of Law series, published by the Middle East Institute at the National University of Singapore.

The article details some of the findings from research that Mednicoff and his collaborators have been conducting over the past three years to better understand what the rule of law means in the Arab Gulf and the implications of those meanings for political and judicial practice in such countries as Qatar and Kuwait.

The research has been sponsored by a grant from the Qatar National Research Fund’s National Priorities Research Program.

Mednicoff is a specialist on Middle Eastern law and politics, and is currently the director of the Middle Eastern Studies program at UMass Amherst as well as a professor at the UMass School of Public Policy. He holds a B.A. from Princeton and an M.A., J.D. (international law) and Ph.D. (political science) from Harvard. Mednicoff is a past Fulbright Scholar and has been nationally recognized for his innovative teaching related to U.S. governance and foreign affairs following the 9/11 tragedy.
