Lauren Coakley is one of ten graduating seniors at UMass Amherst in 2017 to be named a 21st Century Leader. The award is one of the highest honors given to UMass graduates, and recognizes the exemplary achievement, initiative and leadership of award recipients.
Coakley, a political science major at UMass, is also matriculating with the School of Public Policy's Class of 2018.
While at UMass Amherst, Coakley served as speaker of the Student Government Association for two terms and was a member of the inaugural class of UMass Women into Leadership (UWiL), where she was later elected to the board. She also served on numerous campus committees, task forces and advisory boards. Before returning to UMass for her Master's of Public Policy (MPP) degree, Coakley plans to complete a fellowship with the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission.
Coakley hails from Leominster.
