SPP faculty and students are actively involved with projects outside of the classroom. In this way, SPP is broadening the impact our faculty and students have on our world.The Five College Public Policy Initiative aims to enhance collaboration among faculty and students at Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and Smith colleges and the University of Massachusetts Amherst who are interested in curricula, research and outreach related to public policy.The Food Access Research and Engagement Partnership serves as a bridge between the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus and the broader community, linking the teaching and research capacity of UMass with diverse community partners and decision-makers.The National Center for Digital Government seeks to build global research capacity, advance practice, and strengthen the network of researchers and practitioners engaged in building and using technology in government.The Public Engagement Project supports and trains faculty members at the University of Massachusetts Amherst to use their research to contribute to social change, inform public policy, and enrich public debate.The Wellspring Cooperative is creating an engine for new, community-based job creation in inner-city Springfield, Mass., based on the purchasing power of area anchor institutions such as hospitals and universities.
