Area(s) of Specialization:

Health and virtual care management, Body composition, Weight loss and weight loss surgery, Diabetes management and prevention

Research Description:

I joined the Department of Behavioral Medicine Research at Baystate Medical Center in 2005 as I was completed my dissertation on the association between body composition and bone mass in young adult women. Since coming to Baystate I have had the opportunity to further develop my interest in body composition and its effect on health, and have been involved with several projects in collaboration with the hospital’s Weight Loss Surgery Program. We found that support group attendance and regular exercise were important to achieving and sustaining weight loss, and I am following up on these findings by developing a virtual support program for weight loss surgery patients that will leverage wireless technologies for the remote home monitoring of weight and physical activity.
