Dayana Paula
Project coordinator for SABE (Salud, Bienestar, y Envejecimiento) Ecuador, a National Survey for older adults
Dayana Paula received her M.P.H. in May 2009 from the University of Massachusetts with a focus in Community Health Education. While pursuing her degree she did her practicum with the Holyoke Health Center as an Adolescent Reproductive Health intern and later worked for the Youth Empowerment Adolescent Health (YEAH!) Network in Springfield, MA. She conducted her thesis research with the Youth Empowerment Adolescent Health Network in Springfield, MA, developing a sexual health and leadership curriculum.
During Summer 2009, Dayana did an internship at the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, GA with the organization Hispanic-Serving Health Professions Schools. She worked in the Office of Health Disparities in the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STDs, and TB Prevention. She met really wonderful people during her stay in Atlanta. Her primary project was to conduct a tuberculosis systematic review looking at health disparity measurement methods in tuberculosis scientific literature.
Currently, Dayana is working in Ecuador. She works for the University San Francisco Quito as a Project coordinator for SABE (Salud, Bienestar, y Envejecimiento) Ecuador, a National Survey for older adults. The survey involves the collaboration of 5 organizations, including Ministerio de Salud Publica and Alimentate Ecuador, part of MIES.
Her interest in the MPH fits the career interests she has in maternal and child health, adolescent reproductive health, and injury prevention. The MPH furthers Dayana´s understanding of these fields and allowed her to acquire the skills and competencies necessary to manage these programs.
Amazingly, Dayana was able to go through high school, college, and graduate school with her daughter by her side. She owes her motivation to continue on her career path to her.
