Why did you choose this job and/or career?

Personal and professional growth. I had been a clinical dietitian for 16 years prior to taking this position. I feel this position allows me to look at the clinical nutrition in a bigger picture way, have more organizational impact, and still allows me to do patient care which I love.

What is a typical day like for you at Baystate? Who do you normally interact with?

My typical day starts with trouble shooting any administrative issues from the previous evening and making sure everyone is all set for the day. Then, I check my email and tend to whatever is needed.

The rest of the day may be filled with patient care, meetings, scheduling, trouble shooting and projects.

I interact with my team (RDs, techs and nutrition assistants) physicians, nurses, nursing directors, nurse's aides, foodservice workers and supervisors, foodservice director and my VP.

What is your favorite aspect of your job?

I have two:

  1. Nurturing my team and making sure they can do their jobs effectively.
  2. Multidisciplinary patient care

What was your Educational Preparation for your job as an RD?

Master's and one year internship

Where did you complete your Dietetic Internship?

IU Med Center, Indianapolis, IN

What was your DI like?

Clinically focused: only 2 weeks of community and 1 month of foodservice.

If you could give nutrition students any advice, what would it be?

Nutrition is an exciting field with many varying opportunities. With creativity, persistence and hard work you can do anything.

Be involved in your profession and be a volunteer. It's a great way to network and move the profession forward.
