Outreach

Department faculty and over 30 professional and support staff work on and off campus, in-person and online, providing nutrition and food safety education and technical assistance to consumers, teachers, agency staff, and students. Nutrition Department outreach programs strive to meet the needs of diverse learners through integrated research, teaching and outreach programs.

Our programs include the UMass Extension Nutrition Education Program (NEP) and UMass ONE, Online Nutrition Education for Professionals. In addition, the Department also hosts the Massachusetts Nutrient Data Bank (MNDB), a computer-assisted system used to evaluate dietary intake information for research and educational programs, and provides labeling information related to small food business through our support of the New England Food Entrepreneurs.
