Who is qualified to apply to be a HANDS scholar?
Those applying to be HANDS Scholars should:
- Be a current or prospective nutrition major
- Be from a population of first-generation-college or traditionally underrepresented students in the field of nutrition
- Have a minimum 2.75 GPA
- Be willing to negotiate the demands of chemistry, biology and other science classes
- Be interested in multicultural nutrition and increasing the diversity of future nutrition practitioners
What type of support will a HANDS Scholar receive if accepted?
HANDS Scholars will participate in a 1-credit Scholars Seminar each semester, and have access to department and campus-based supports including tutoring, mentorship and career counseling. HANDS Scholars will also participate in nutrition conferences and other special programs to increase professional preparation and development skills.
