Eligibility
Who is qualified to apply to be a HANDS scholar?
Those applying to be HANDS Scholars should:
- Have a strong interest in nutrition
- Be from a population of first-generation-college or traditionally underrepresented students in the field of nutrition
- Have a minimum 2.75 GPA
- Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national
- Be willing to negotiate the demands of chemistry, biology and other science classes
- Be an undeclared major, or a major in any field aside from nutrition, food and agricultural sciences
- Be interested in declaring Human Nutrition as a major
What type of support will a HANDS Scholar receive if accepted?
HANDS Scholars will be awarded a $6,000 scholarship annually. This scholarship is available for up to three years. HANDS Scholars will participate in a 1-credit Scholars Seminar each semester, and have access to department and campus-based supports including tutoring, mentorship and career counseling. HANDS Scholars will also participate in nutrition conferences and other special programs.
