Undergraduate Programs
The Department of Nutrition offers the B.S. degree in Nutrition, accredited by the American Dietetic Association, as well as general education and other coursework for majors and nonmajors. Nutrition is a diverse field, with many opportunities for a rewarding career. Nutritionists:
- teach children and adults about preventing or treating health problems, such as obesity, diabetes, and eating disorders
- help solve community problems, such as hunger
- work in hospitals and clinics providing nutrition counseling and care plans
- address malnutrition in developing countries
- work with medical supplement and food companies to develop and promote nutritionally sound products
- conduct research to better understand how nutrients, foods and the diet can prevent diseases such as heart disease and cancer.
