POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
TITLE: Assistant Professor of Nutrition
DEPARTMENT: Department of Nutrition, School of Public Health and Health Sciences.
The University of Massachusetts Amherst is the flagship campus of the University of Massachusetts system, and is home to 19,400 undergraduate and 5,700 graduate students. RANK: Assistant Professor, tenure track 9 -month appointment
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate in Nutrition or closely related field. Preferred area of interest is applied research on obesity and obesity-related chronic diseases and their prevention. Research can include studies of dietary intake, eating patterns, and diets in diverse populations; obesity-related community interventions, eating attitudes or other factors related to obesity; research on disparities by race and income; biomarkers of obesity-related diseases; or effectiveness of preventive and treatment models for obesity. Focus may include studies of policy or educational interventions in diverse communities, schools, institutions, and other settings. Limited laboratory space is available for cell culture, relationship to disease markers, or other such related laboratory activities.
Post-doctoral research experience preferred, R.D. desirable. Appointee must have strong demonstrated ability or potential in research and teaching and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
DUTIES: The appointee will be a full-time faculty member of the Department of Nutrition and will be considered for tenure, promotion and merit increases on the basis of excellence in scholarship, teaching, service and other assigned duties. These duties shall include but are not limited to:
• Establishing and developing an active research program with an independent base of support funds.
• Teaching undergraduate and graduate-level nutrition courses to a diverse body of learners; developing courses in areas of expertise.
• Advising undergraduate nutrition majors and guiding graduate student research.
• Providing technical support in nutrition to the University of Massachusetts Extension as needed.
• Developing working relationships with the profession and other members of the University and five-college community.
• Serving on such committees, panels or boards as required.
