Volberg comments on MGM casino agreement in Worcester Business Journal

Research Associate Professor of Epidemiology Rachel Volberg, who serves as the principal investigator on the Social and Economic Impacts of Gambling in Massachusetts (SEIGMA) research study, was recently quoted in a Worcester Business Journal article exploring the challenges Central Mass tourism will face when two new casinos open in Massachusetts. Volberg says the agreement made by MGM Springfield and surrounding performance venues to prevent unfair competition is very unusual for the gambling industry. She also says there isn’t a lot of hard data about the impact casinos have on communities.
