Graduate students at the 2016 stroke and aphasia awareness event

Shine A Light, an event organized by graduate students in the Department of Communication Disorders, was featured by WWLP-22News. The event was held March 25, 2017 by the student‐run UMass Stroke Support Group to raise awareness for stroke and aphasia. Aphasia is an impairment of language affecting the production and/or comprehension of spoken and written language, usually as a result of a left hemisphere stroke. 

Jacquie Kurland, Professor and Chair, told 22News, “We have graduate students in speech language pathology and they get involved in community service, supporting groups that we started seven or eight years ago.”
