Assistant Professor of Biostatistics Nicholas Reich was the keynote speaker at the annual Massachusetts Statewide Undergraduate Research Conference at the UMass Amherst Campus Center, which also included presentations from over 100 teams of SPHHS undergraduates from all four departments within the school. Reich's presentation, titled "Predicting Dengue Fever Outbreaks in Thailand," explored his research using biostatistical methods as well as how he came to a math and science-focused doctoral degree after first earning his bachelor's in English literature.
"It was a great honor to be asked to speak at the conference. Talking with student presenters before and after my keynote, I was struck at the diversity and ingenuity of the research being done at the undergraduate level at public universities here in Massachusetts," says Reich.
The conference, which brings together nearly 1,100 undergraduates from 25 higher education institutions in the state of Massasachusetts, was cosponsored by the UMass Amherst Honors College and the Massachusetts System of Public Higher Education.
