UMass Nutrition students Michelle Abate, Kelsey Baumgarten, Shelagh Curran, Madeline Cutrone, Nicole Ling, Althea Mortensen, Brooke Robinson, Joann Shih, Lauren Smith and Tess Washburn recently volunteered at the second annual Valley Vegfest, held in Northampton, MA. The educational event focused on plant-based and vegan food and diets. Nutrition students came out to volunteer with tabling for the Vegetarian Resource Group (VRG), a non-profit that seeks to educate the public on vegan diets and the connections between health, nutrition, ecology, ethics, and world hunger.
Reed Mangels, Lecturer of Nutrition, is VRG’s nutrition advisor, and was a featured Vegfest speaker, giving a talk entitled “Vegan Diets in a Nutshell.”
