Judi Bruno LaBranche, Lecturer of Kinesiology, has won the 2014-2015 College Outstanding Teacher Award for the School of Public Health and Health Sciences (SPHHS). The award is sponsored by the UMass Amherst Provost’s Office and the Center for Teaching & Faculty Development, and given annually to honor individual faculty members for their teaching accomplishments. The recipients will be recognized at Undergraduate Commencement and at the School’s Senior Recognition Ceremony.
LaBranche was cited for her impact on students and contributions to the teaching mission at the university.
"My role is to help them take their science knowledge from the classroom and enhance it through practice. Working with the kinesiology students has been amazing. Our students are engaging, enthusiastic, and exceptional!" she says.
This past year, LaBranche taught KIN 340 (Exercise Testing and Programming) and KIN 297 (Wellness Programming).
“I am focused on students applying what they know, and I use as many real life examples as I possibly can. I also look for ways I can assist students in reaching their potential; pushing them when I don't think they are where they need to be,” she adds.
LaBranche’s area of expertise is exercise programming for individuals with chronic diseases. Much of her work focuses on working with individuals affected by cancer.
“I am really honored to receive this award. I am surrounded by outstanding professionals so it is a big honor,” she says.
