The Institute for Computational Biology, Biostatistics, and Bioinformatics (ICB3) launches new website

Feb 27 2013

The Institute for Computational Biology, Biostatistics, and Bioinformatics (ICB3) has launched its inaugural website at www.umass.edu/icb3. The site is one of the first to be developed with University Relations’ new UMass-branded Drupal package.

Associate ProfessorThe new website features campus resources and research at the intersection of computational, statistical, and life sciences. As an information source, it (1) highlights over 30 affiliated faculty working as potential collaborators with complementary interests and expertise, (2) provides an overview of graduate level course offerings, and (3) raises awareness of UMass Amherst’s expertise and excellence within the national and international community.

Associate Professor of Biostatistics Andrea Foulkes, ICB3’s director, notes, “ICB3’s activities focus on enabling new opportunities for faculty collaboration and building novel programmatic offerings of interest to faculty, students and industry. Our website will be an important communication vehicle for many of our research, educational, and industry engagement efforts. In fact, we are already preparing to use it to provide information about two exciting initiatives for spring and early summer: The Summer Training Institute in Reproducible Research with R (STIRRR) and Open Source Software Innovation Competition (OSSI).”

STIRRR is designed to support researchers in biomedical and social scientific disciplines to implement best practices for reproducible research using R. The ICB3 is currently developing a pilot program for industry scientists, university faculty, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students. More details on OSSI will be announced soon.
