Graham receives CHC faculty development grant
Louis Graham, Assistant Professor of Community Health Education, recently received a $2000 Honors Curricular and Faculty Development Grant from the UMass Amherst Commonwealth Honors College (CHC). The CHC provides this award to support new faculty.
Using community-based participatory approaches to his scholarship, Graham aims to understand psychosocial determinants of health among ethnic, gender and sexually marginalized groups – including mental health promotion and HIV prevention among black and Latino gay and bisexual men and transgender women. He is the co-principal investigator of “Detroit Youth Passages,” a five-year, Ford Foundation-funded ethnographic research project which seeks to examine and positively transform structural conditions that contribute to sexual vulnerabilities.
Graham intends to use the CHC faculty development grant to support the development of a proposal to secure additional extramural research funding and to present his work from the Detroit Youth Passages project at an upcoming conference.
