The School of Public Health and Health Sciences will host a campus kickoff event celebrating the launch of its new Center for Community Health Equity Research on Thursday, April 26, 9:30am-12:30pm in the Campus Center's Amherst Room. The Center welcomes renowned speaker Dr. David Williams, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, for a keynote talk titled "Racial and Socioeconomic Disparities in Health: Present Realities & Future Directions.”
Williams’ keynote talk will be followed by a faculty panel discussion featuring Drs. Louis Graham and Lisa Wexler from the Department of Health Promotion and Policy in the School of Public Health and Health Sciences and Dr. Dean Robinson from the Department of Political Science.
The SPHHS Center for Community Health Equity Research promotes multidisciplinary research investigating the social production of health disparities and the relationship between individual, social, and environmental structures that impact quality of life and population health. Its researchers seek to address the gap between academic research and practice by leveraging rigorous studies to drive public health policies. The Center will build collective resilience by forging partnerships both locally and globally through participatory research with clinical and community-based organizations.
