Associate Professor of Nutrition Elena Carbone has been selected to join the Standing Committee on Policy and Advocacy of the International Health Literacy Association (IHLA). Founded in 2016, the IHLA is a non-profit, member-based association dedicated to the professional development of its members and the health literacy field.
The newly formed policy and advocacy committee includes representatives and experts from the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Africa. It is responsible for advocacy and policy generation, recommendations and evaluation in consultation and coordination with the IHLA Executive Board and membership. The committee also monitors and makes recommendations regarding previous health literacy policy and advocacy initiatives.
“I'm honored to have been selected to take part in an association that promotes health literacy,” says Carbone. “This Standing Committee is particularly focused on outreach, public policy and public service so I see it as an opportunity to make a positive impact on public health and wellness globally.”
Carbone will serve on the committee for a two-year period ending June 2020.
